When is the Season ?
Practices will start the last week of November or early December, games in early December, and we’ll continue until late February. There will be a break during the kids’ winter vacation.
Younger teams will have 1 weeknight practice per week, and once games begin, also a weekend game. Beginning this year, Boys 8th-9th and Boys 10th-12th will only practice a couple times a season, and will thus have a discounted registration fee. All divisions will play their games on Saturday, except the 10th-12th grade boys, who will play games on Sunday nights.
What is the COVID policy for the league?
Safety of players, referees, coaches, and spectators is paramount.
Currently, our expectation is that we will be playing under a mask-optional policy. Our mask policy will be based on the requirements set by our gym partnerships.
Additionally, the league will AT ALL TIMES follow all applicable guidelines which include local health department guidelines and any facility specific guidelines.
We are optimistic that we no longer have the spectator limitations, and we will follow any rules put in place by our facilities.
Can I volunteer as a coach?
All coaches are volunteers, so yes! If you are interested in volunteering as a coach or assistant coach please check the box on your child’s application during registration.
Also, feel free to communicate your interest in coaching via the contact us form.
How can I join the board?
Woodcroft Sports is operated and overseen by an all-volunteer board. The board is responsible for scheduling and team rosters, equipment, securing court space, refs, and uniforms, — in short, all the workings of the league.
The board is currently made up of men and women, most of whom have children playing in the league. As our children age out we ALWAYS need new members. The board meets monthly in the evenings and there is no financial commitment on your part. Current and past board members will be available to train and assist you in transition. If you would like to join the board please communicate your interest and contact us.
Do I have to live in the Woodcroft neighborhood or be a Durham resident to play?
NO! Woodcroft Basketball is open to all. Our gyms are generally based in south Durham, and anyone in that region or willing to drive there is encouraged to join us
Do you have a college division?
Currently we are only able to field divisions from 2nd grade through high school.
When should I register?
As soon as possible after registration opens. Once capacity is met for a given division, registration will close.
Due to limited playing facilities, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Woodcroft reserves the right to refuse any application received after the registration deadline, any incomplete application, or any application received after the appropriate division is filled—even if it is received before the deadline.
While Woodcroft Basketball works very hard to accommodate all requests (and we have a terrific success rate), we cannot guarantee team, practice/game times, or specific coach requests.
What happens if I register late?
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. We are no longer doing any paper registration forms. It is all online. If you register after your division is full, you may be added to a wait list.
If your child is not added to a team, 100% of your money will be refunded.
